The Beginning

In the summer of 1917, Mao Zedong and his fellow student Xiao Zisheng, who were studying at Hunan First Normal University, embarked on a journey of poverty with only pen and ink, without a single word. Over the course of more than a month, they traveled to five places, measured the world with their footsteps, and felt the people with their hearts. In the process of opening up the "wordless book" of society, Mao Zedong gradually realized the location of the "great source" he explored day and night. This journey became an extremely important starting point in his life path.

Submarines

Soviet Border

The events unfold during the years of the Civil War. Commissar Fadeytsev once spared the life of a White officer, Chugureyev. Now, in the days of the counter-revolutionary uprising, Chugureyev, sent by his command to a remote island, encounters Fadeytsev, who is hiding in the house of a gamekeeper named Maksim. The gamekeeper is sentenced to hang, and the sentence is carried out. Fadeytsev manages to escape captivity, but being on an island, he knows full well that he won’t get far from the enemy...

A 1944 propaganda short film produced for the U.S. Treasury Department and intended to boost war bond sales, directed by an uncredited Alfred Hitchcock and starring Jennifer Jones as a nurse's aide. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive, from the Academy War Film Collection, in 2008.
