Congo Cabaret

Harlem, 1926. A “sweetman” Zeddy, living off a woman, brings a country girl he’s trying to impress to a gay-owned cabaret. There he meets a friend, Jake, whose girlfriend, Congo Rose, is the singer there. Drama swirls around the characters as Zeddy confronts the cabaret owner, about his sexuality. Congo Rose, seeking to reignite her man’s fading interest, puts on a performance, with her Pansy Dancer, of a Bessie Smith song that seduces the whole room, especially Zeddy.

101 Flight

In the early morning of September 11, 2001, a Boeing 757 aircraft belonging to Uzbekistan Airways takes off from the Uzbek capital Tashkent. This is the final flight of experienced pilot Zarif Saidazimov prior to retirement. 101-Flight is in transit through London Birmingham International Airport to John F Kennedy International Airport in New York.

A Park Grows in Brooklyn

"A Park Grows in Brooklyn" is a three-minute historical and educational film produced for the Brooklyn Bridge Park Coalition (now the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy), sponsor of the "Movies with a View" Summer Film Series taking place annually on what is presently known as the Empire Fulton Ferry Lawn. Crafted during the Spring/Summer of 2000, the film includes historical images and artistic renderings of the Twin Towers along the Manhattan skyline, just one year prior to September 11, 2001. Today, One World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Bridge Park live and grow.

9/11: Cleared for Chaos

On September 11, 2001, the unimaginable transpired when devastating attacks on the World Trade Center forced the shutdown of the entire U.S. airspace. Thousands of kilometres away in Gander, Newfoundland, a group of Nav Canada air traffic controllers suddenly had the lives of 33,000 people in their hands and had to think fast to find a place for them to go. A Couple

"A Couple" is a film about a long term relationship between a man and a woman. The man is Leo Tolstoy. The woman is his wife, Sophia. They were married for 36 years, had 13 children, nine of whom survived. Each kept a diary. Although they lived together, in the same house, they wrote letters frequently to each other. Leo Tolstoy insisted that they read their diaries aloud to guests at dinner parties. The Tolstoy’s were also a dysfunctional couple, arguing frequently and being very unhappy with each other while occasionally enjoying passionate moments of reconciliation. The film is Sophia’s monologue about the joys and struggles of their life together, loosely drawn from their letters to each other and their diary entries.

The Siege at Ruby Ridge

Since the defeat, the Nazis, who were the masters of the occupied zone, and the French State, which had been ruling the so-called free zone since Vichy, ordered the Jews to take a census. From the spring of 1941, whether they had been French for several generations or naturalized for a few years, foreigners who had taken refuge in France or stateless people who had been driven out of their country, they were put on file, arrested or threatened at any time. Some wrote to the administration, or directly to Marshal Pétain, who seemed to them to be the last resort. These requests are called Suppliques. Men, women, sometimes children, tried as best they could, by all means, to loosen the trap. They address themselves to their executioners, but they do not know it.
