The one-celled long and slender diatom, up close: discovered in 1703 with the invention of the microscope. We observe them magnified 10,000 times: water expelled through the skeleton, mucilage constantly emitted, allowing it to glide. Their energy comes from sunlight. They divide and disperse. The narrator, conversing with a young woman, says their remains cover one-third of the earth's surface. They have uses in petroleum, explosives, and polish. Some live in isolation, some in colonies, like elaborate fans. They can move in clusters. Many small animals eat them. We watch them slide on each other in long strings.

"Radiography of the desert" pretends to be, by extrapolation, what "Radiography of the pampa" (the 1933 book by Ezequiel Martínez Estrada) was for the humid and fertile area of the country. The documentary, filmed in the Lavalle drylands and the Andean foothills, observes several characters and their jobs related to the most arid areas of the province of Mendoza: a pilot who enters the summer storms, bombarding the clouds with silver iodide to prevent hail from damaging crops; a fisherman from the Nihuil lagoon who barely survives in a polluted dam; a family of wells who build cisterns and irrigation wells in rural desert areas; and a geographer in search of Francisco de Hoces's journey.

There's No Such Place Called Allianoi

Allianoi, one of the world's best-preserved ancient health centres, was discovered during excavations and later submerged by the construction of a dam in Pergamon, Türkiye. The project gave rise to one of Türkiye's first large-scale civil resistance movements, decades of legal battles and political decisions that shaped the site's fate. For local farmers, the dam promised reliable irrigation after years of waiting. Through personal testimonies, archival materials, animation and footage filmed on location, the documentary tracks a conflict in which cultural heritage and everyday survival became impossible to separate.

This 21-minute documentary marks the directorial debut of acclaimed Thai filmmaker Pen-Ek Ratanaruang in the documentary format. Though modest in scale, it is a charming work infused with his distinctive style and signature sensibility. Commissioned with support from Nike (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the project explores a passion for football by taking viewers into the lives of amateur players who gather on a concrete pitch beneath the Din Daeng Expressway. Pen-Ek himself was a regular participant in this football community, lending the film a personal and intimate perspective. The documentary serves as a reflection of urban dreamers struggling to find space to play the game they love, capturing their aspirations with a blend of humor, melancholy, and the uniquely ironic touch that characterizes Pen-Ek’s filmmaking.
