Ski-Faszination

1966

With his first film "Skifascination", Willy Bogner junior composed something unprecedented: a ski symphony of ski races, sketches and ski ballet. The world had never seen such an aesthetic combination of choreographed ski turns, brightly colored ski suits and emotional music in 1966! Shot in Ultrascope in the mountains around St. Moritz, the idea, script, production and camera shots were all the work of Willy Bogner. The spectacular images opened up completely new perspectives on skiing, which at the time was primarily seen as a high-speed sport. Willy added a romantic touch to skiing by combining it with beauty, harmony and fun. He didn't even need a continuous plot - snow, mountains and dancing on two boards were all he needed as the main characters!

Salvation

2018

Sutera (lat. soter = savior, to save) is a sleepy, ancient village of 800 inhabitants in the heart of Sicily, located under a mountain. In the past four decades it has lost 90% of its population. In the last years, Sicily experienced the brunt of the refugee wave coming across the Mediterranean, trying to get to the European shores. Following a marine tragedy in 2013, the inhabitants of Sutera opened the doors of the empty houses for the migrants. The main piazza was buzzing again with life but soon the migrants faced unemployment and a lack of job opportunities. A story of migration as economic choice vs. migration as a desperate act of last resort.

A Guest of life

2006

'A Guest of life' is inspired by the journey of Alexander Csoma de Koros. The eccentric 19th century set out from his native Transylvania to central Asia on foot, only taking his knowledge of 13 dead and spoken languages with him. He wanted to find the ancestors of the Hungarians, but once reaching Tibet he stayed there, compiling an English-Tibetan dictionary, translating and abridging Buddhist teachings and literature, including the Book of the Dead. The film however is not a biopic, but a collection of impressions of Tibet, recorded on an 8mm camera, overlaid with excerpts from Csoma's diary and translations, spoken on the many languages familiar to Csoma. Intercut with the documentary-style footage are animated segments, which tell Transylvanian folktales that have been weaved around the legendary figure of Csoma.
